Episode 86: Made in America

Dr. Melfi has cut her ties, Silvio's in a coma, and Bobby has been derailed - now, there is no more hiding. Now that you’ve heard about it, tell us what you thought about the Finale of the Sopranos.

It's okay, G. - Glen needs a break tonight - we'll pick this up another time....

It's time to talk football! Strap yourself in because my scope here is very narrow, lol. Where are they playing this game anyway?

Glen...they have to play Defense....I am sure Bill will make some adjustments.

They had them on the ropes but let them off on that last drive...shame on them. They let them back in the game with that....but thats ok... we have 30 minutes of football left.

Well, that's my little dilemma, my friend. :O

I thought Psych was a little too one dimensional for me, and I needed more creativity, with a broader palette, if you will. I've used my degree more in the film biz than I probably ever would've in actual practice, lol. Creativity and psychology all blur together after a certain point. There is such a fine line between art and science - it's all creativity when you come down to it. As I get older though, I find myself leaning a bit more toward psych. I've got real commitment issues, I tell you. ;)

Are you beginning to understand why I enjoyed The Sopranos? LOL.

I understand.
Well, as the NFL network idiot announcer can't stop repeating, the Giants are playing their guts out, even though this means nothing to them. For the pats it's the difference between a 15-1 season and being the fisrt team with an undefeated record since the 72 dolphins. So it means a lot.
Giants lead 21-16 at the half, but I expect the Pats to adapt, learn from what they've seen, and come in and dominate in the second half. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Sure, Glen, ;) I'm just catching up from earlier.

How's the game going so far? Is this for some kind of championship? All I know is that the Patriots are unbeaten 15-0 and they're playing the NY Giants, is that right? Why is this such a big deal? This is not my area of expertise, lol.

It can also be far more complicated than that, G.

All of it is "mental health." Medication is also not always a "necessity" either.

Agree 100% (see above).

There are many layers of complexity to individual reactions to stress and loss, not the least of which is genetics and personal history. Just because some have the inner strength to transcend, does not mean everyone does. It is extremely individual.

Can we get back to that later? I agree about depression not equivalent to self pity. Only an idiot would think that.
But it's football tonight.

Well, I'm not sure those are the only two choices, but yes, depression has fueled a lot of incredible art, but also cost many a very high price as well. You're right, it is a dangerous path. There is nothing glorious nor romantic about excess psychic pain. Life is a balance of all emotions.

PS It is very dangerous to consider depression as "self-pity." That is not accurate.

Yes, I know, I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology.

It would help everyone to do that for themselves.

That's wonderful - for both of you. It's so very important and valuable to stay conscious and self-aware.

You're a great role model, MIL.
